Chief Instructor

It is more important to have Good Character than it is to have Good Skill & Abilities...but the two can go hand-in-hand. The goal should be to associate Good Skill & Abilities with Good Character.
— Budo Kombat slogan

The chief Instructor at Budo Kombat has amassed striking and related defense proficiency with over 20 years of Martial Arts experience across multiple disciplines – beginning with Traditional Karate-Do at the age of 10, receiving his Black Belt eight years later. During those days, he had participated in many Karate competitions across Ontario, winning and medaling in over a dozen Shiai’s (Tournaments) in both Kumite (Point Sparring) and Kata (Forms). His collected experience has extended beyond his foundation in Karate, through ongoing regular training in other striking arts including Muay Thai and Boxing at various academies across the GTA and internationally. He is a Certified Boxing Coach through Boxing Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada, as well as a Certified Muay Thai Kru (Poo Choi) from Ajahn Suchart Yodkerepauprai, and a Certified & Licensed Coach and Cornerman by Muay Thai Ontario.

Additionally, he has participated in and has been successfully graded in an established curriculum in Thailand, with his qualifications subsequently accredited by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and Culture for the Title of Certified Muay Thai Head Coach.

The chief instructor’s focus on teaching the technical acumen of striking and related defense principles, along with his interest in maintaining traditional Budo principles, as well as his ongoing efforts in syncretising Karate with Muay Thai and Boxing enables him to stand out as a unique Instructor of the Craft (hence formulating the Budo Kombat System). Through his years of point-sparring, he has developed a ‘Mastery of Control’ — an ability to decouple speed from power, thereby simulating hard-sparring/actual combat scenarios in a safe space with minimal risk. He believes that practicing Martial Arts can be one of the funnest activities in the world, and can be trained at a very high level — functionally and practically — without tones of violence, aggression and hostility. Rather, with tones of playfulness, fun and a virtuous spirit while developing and refining strong character attributes such as discipline, focus, and self-awareness. He believes in Traditional Martial Arts values — It is more important to have good character than it is to have good skill and abilities...but the two can go hand-in-hand. It is important to associate good skill and ability with good character.

Today, in addition to teaching — he continues to refine both his traditional and practical martial arts knowledge and skills through furthering his study and practice of of Muay Thai, Karate and Boxing.
